Epistematica to Forum P.A. 2006
On May 11th 2006 from 2 pm to 6 pm in the Forum of Public Administration in “Fiera di Roma”, was held the Masters P.A.
entitled "Semantic Web to integrate data and services", organised by the Department of Computer and Systems Science of
the "La Sapienza" University of Rome and Epistematica SrL. The event achieve a remarkable success counting over 350 partecipants!
The Masters is an initiative of Forum P.A. aimed to provide italian Public Administration managers with knowledges on new
technologies and Semantic Web, and particularly, their use in accessing information and integrating data and services. The Masters
was developed in four parts managed by Prof. Maurizio Lenzerini, Prof. Giuseppe De Giacomo, Prof. Riccardo Rosati from “La Sapienza”
University of Rome, and Eng. Maurizio Iacovella from Epistematica.

On May 10th 2006 from 9.30 pm to 1.00 pm was still held, in the Forum of Public Administration 2006 in “Fiera di Roma”, a convention
entitled “Technologies based on semantics for Informative Systems of Public Administration”. Epistematica Chief Executive
Officer Luca Severini has taken part to the meeting with a speech called “Description Logics and automatic reasoning: Semantic
Web technologies”.

In the era of information society by virtue of recent technological developments, we are able to store and manage
considerable quantities of data as well as communicating it and making it available anywhere thanks to the Internet.
But it is the availability of the data, often inhomogeneous in itself, designed and managed by autonomous organisations and
systems, which frequently reaches a level of added complexity in the design and development of sophisticated information systems.
There is therefore the need for methodologies and tools specifically oriented at integrating data and services originating from
heterogeneous sources. Recent developments in the Semantic Web anticipate the possibility of a new class of methodology and
tools of this kind which offer sophisticated mechanisms of knowledge representation on one side and techniques for automatic reasoning
on this representation on the other.
Methodologies and tools based on semantics can make up precious support for the design and development of next-generation information
systems.
