Epistematica in PANOPTESEC EU Rersearch Project

FP7-ICT-2013-10 Objective
ICT-2013.1.5 Trustworthy ICT item (c)

Epistematica Italy obtained an EU grant for research in Cyber Security. The project, called PANOPTESEC – http://www.panoptesec.eu/ – aims at delivering a beyond-state-of-the-art prototype of a Cyber Defence Decision Support System, demonstrating a risk based approach to automated cyber defence that accounts for the dynamic nature of information and communications technologies (ICT) and the constantly evolving capabilities of cyber attackers.

Epistematica participates in several research activities across the project. In particular, il will lead the Work Package Number 4 “Data Collection and Correlation”. In this Work Package, an ontology for Cyber Security will be built to be used by an Inference Engine for correlation of data coming from different data sources.

The engine will manage a knowledge base and integrate input coming from different sources, including historic and actual data as well as mission impact model information. The engine will also cooperate with the visual analytics component to allow human operators to influence correlation operations by dynamically updating the knowledge base. The data collection component (i.e., the correlation engine and its knowledge base) will provide the necessary input for all the other components of the PANOPTESEC system.
